First Bite: Party Fowl Is Open, Serving Up Hot Chicken to the Gulch
"Party Fowl, the casual bar/restaurant project from co-owners Austin Smith and Nick Jacobson swung open the coop doors this past Sunday for a soft opening which turned pretty hard pretty quickly. According to Smith, the restaurant doubled their anticipated revenue target and has spent the time since quickly staffing up for the influx of hot-chicken pickers. Fortunately, Party Fowl — located at Eighth Avenue and Division in the Gulch — offers free valet parking, because during my first visit the streets were already crowded with cars at 11:30 a.m. By noon the place was filled with hungry diners enjoying Party Fowl's take on Southern food, including a heat level they call "Nashville Hot." In the restaurant's marketing material, they refer to their offering as "Hot Chicken, Local Brews and Live Music Under One Roof," but I personally think this isn't completely accurate on a few levels. First of all, their menu is much broader than most other hot chicken shacks and joints, with dishes like Rancher's Pie, chicken livers and smoked chicken, so I think they're selling themselves short with that limited description of their repertoire."
